I really like the 5 Steps to a 5 series of review books. I teach AP Gov, and I have used material from this book for review activities with my class. The book is broken down into content units that align with the course units. Each unit has overview essays as well as quick review points. My favorite part about these books is that you get lots of practice tests- five in this one. The multiple choice questions on the practice test read very similarly to the ones you see on the actual AP exam. No review book manages to mimic the College Board perfectly, but this one comes pretty close in terms of multiple choice. I would definitely recommend this for those reviewing for the gov exam.

This edition is virtually unchanged from the previous 3 or 4 (or 5 or 6!) editions. The 2012 edition is word for word the same with a couple of sentences changed here and there.My bad rating is not for the book itself, but for fact that it has not been validly updated for several years (a few words have changed - but that's about it). The book itself corresponds well to the horribly outdated AP Exam. In the book (and exam) We learn all about the Senatorial Filibuster.... but it virtually no longer exists as it is portrayed in the book or in various Hollywood films.

My son is great at taking in information and analyzing it. He's less great at figuring out what is being asked on tests.This study guide is SO helpful for him. It's less about what he knows and more about how to present it. Exactly what he needs.

My A grade student used this to help prep for the AP test, and despite devoting long hours of her life each evening over this book, still walked away with a 2 in the test. Which, is not enough to be accepted by colleges.

EXCELLENT

This 225-page book was formated with large over-sized fonts. If standard fonts were used and white spaces were reduced, the volume would be half the size. On the other hand, the publisher would be "hard pressed" to justify a price of $16.95 for a 113-page book.The author used an outline approach in reviewing for the AP Government Test. This style had important advantages over the essay-like CLIFF NOTES approach. Listing important ideas and details with "margin bullets" eliminated the additional words and paragraphs required to construct a narrative and to tie ideas together. Also by bold printing terms and vocabulary, the reader's eyes were focused on the important ideas.The outline style's biggest advantage was that the approach blended in with the way that people studied. It was easier to memorize an outline listing of specific ideas, details, and facts than rereading a narrative several times.In the book, each topic section totaled five to ten pages. At the end of the section were five to ten multiple-choice review questions. Each was constructed in the same style and approach as the real AP test. Following the sectional test were one-sentence explanations on the answers.The volume ended with website listing of six internet links for additional resources and a glossary of terms.Unfortunately, the book had two flaws. On the sample Free-Response Essays, it only provided the rubrics for scoring. The author should have provided sample essay responses. Secondly, two identical copies of a sample diagnostic exam were provided. It would have been more helpful to have two different tests instead.

Flimsy and non-laminated cards- I would have had to reorder each year. Content was appropriate but I did not like the way cards were sorted in alphabetically order. I would have preferred by unit or subject matter.

Some people complain the death of the cookie man is horrible. If a child doesn't understand this is only make believe and not true, he/she needs some real world experiences. Christ sake, this is a talking and walking cookie man. He gets eaten up at the end with no drama in the story line to infer a bloody or crumbly demise and no extra artwork to show a dead orcrumbly cookie. Get over it already. It's a really cute story about teasing too much. With a end result of a mean gingerbread man that is no more. Oops, maybe lots of teasing is no good. Maybe he's right.

This delightful tale is still as engaging for children today as it was decades ago. Repetition and memory are part of this story. The refrain of, "You can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man," has the child repeating it right along with you as you read it aloud. And children like recalling the characters from whom the gingerbread man is running: the little boy, the old man and woman, the farmers, etc. The pictures are large and colorful, too.I presented this along with a gingerbread man cookie cutter to a 4 1/2 year-old and her mommy. When I saw how much the little girl liked decorating my own cookies, I realized what a wonderful gift this could be, as it was not only a project for the two of them to enjoy, but the child loved the book and would have fond memories for years to come, each time she read it.

This is the exact book that my children enjoyed years ago. I am now reading it to my grandchildren. It is simply written, yet illustrated so that the pictures tell the story. Toddlers can easily understand this version. And then, of course, cookies are made, decorated and then eaten!

I have 4 different versions of the gingerbread man. I purchased this one because it was required by my children's pre-school. It's my second favorite now because there's a little boy in the book that my little boys can relate to.My favorite is illustrated by Gail Yerrill and retold by Louise Martin. I love the vibrant colors and I really like the excitement of the fox crossing the river with the gingerbread man on his back. My boys always have to start it off by counting the gingerbread men on the inside covers.

I read this book to my children when they were young and I was delighted to find it still in print with the same graphics. I include this with every baby gift.

It helps answer questions and if used correctly, will keep track of income and expenses for your child care business. As a bonus, it also includes recipes and activity ideas for each month. There are also reminders added to the calendar, such as fire drill day, pay estimated taxes, and other helpful things. That puts the GOP at odds with America's checks-and-balances, separation-of-powers governing system that all but demands compromise between parties by making it difficult for a majority party to work its will.Mann and Ornstein begin telling the history of how we got here by using the 2011 debt limit crisis, in which Republicans threatened a default on the national debt for the sake of forcing President Obama to accept massive spending cuts, to illustrate concisely yet in detail the party's contempt for its Democratic opposition and for the government itself. They then trace these attitudes back to Newton Leroy "Newt" Gingrich, who came to the House of Representatives in the late 1970s desiring power for both himself and his party at the expense of good government by unifying House Republicans against the chamber's Democratic majority and convincing both the public and the news media that the House was corrupt-thus encouraging the electorate to distrust government reflexively and then vote for the party that shared its disdain for government. This cynicism, they contend, has created an impediment to political reform.The scholars also properly heap scorn upon the media, which they contend has become so fixated with appearing "fair and balanced" that it has all but ignored the GOP's transformation into a party that puts America at risk by hindering it instead of helping it. They argue that it's become easier for journalists to write stories blaming both sides than it is for them to cover the real story.Mann and Ornstein conclude by spending four chapters exploring various ideas, both bad and good, for resolving the problem. They advocate for, among other things, moving elections to weekends and making voting mandatory; campaign finance reform, including banning contributions from lobbyists; and even creating a parallel "shadow" Congress, comprised of ex-lawmakers, to debate issues of the day. Their ideas & observations on party polarization (& how to lessen it), voter suppression, increasing voter turnout, gerrymandering, the corrupting power of money, etc..... are spot on.

First things first: this book is about: "the biblical guide to earning, spending, saving, investing, giving, and getting out of debt"The reason I got this book is, being a Christian, I wanted to understand the biblical way of dealing with my finances. After reading a few chapters I quickly learned that "my finances" isn't really my finances but God's (the book explains it well). It is things like this that challenges the Christian; however, it is so loaded with scripture that you will be glad to accept the challenge of conforming your way of thinking to the biblical way.The book is very resourceful, you'll be referring back to this book for the rest of your life. It is easy to understand and practice; so much so that I plan to teach from it at church someday and like I mentioned it's filled with scripture so you are learning what the Bible teaches not the author's own opinions.I personally gave this five stars because I'm satisfied enough that I don't think I'll need any other book of the topic.

Fantastic book on managing finances according to God's plan and design. Despite having read many other books on the topic, this one changed my perspective forever, and we've already experienced the Lord's blessing as a result of applying the principals outlined in this book.

I've read this book several times, and I'm always struck by how it goes right to the heart of the issues we all struggle with at some point in our lives. Very well written and based on Scripture, I highly recommend it (and the small-group study) for anyone desiring to handle their finances God's way.

Very inspiring read. Uplifting and practical. Highly recommend any of Howard Dayton's books. His books are written with compassion and wisdom. Non condemning.

This book is an excellent book on money management, written in an easy to follow style, and related continuously to modern life and all of the trappings and consequences of the "keep up with the Jones" lifestyle. This book lets the reader see why Christ taught that the love of money is the root of all evil, and that man can only serve one master. A must read!

This book has really opened my eyes about approaching money from a Biblical perspective.This is not, necessarily, a how-to book about the best way to get out of debt or invest for the future. It's about changing your view of money and how we are to use our money, based on God's word.

Wonderful book for any Christian adult. Great information on handling money and your life in general. This will be a book I reference and reread for many years to come.
