Just what my son wanted for school

I purchased this book to help me better understand Fluid Power. Great text. Met all of my expectations.

It holds a lot of information about hydraulic and pneumatic systems in only six chapters, and if used with lab time in a class is a great book. If you are simply looking for information on the subject of fluid power, it is a great reference as well.

Has been extremely useful in understanding/troubleshooting fluid systems.

The entire time I was reading this compelling and evocative book, I kept thinking about how much fortitude Curt Warner and his wife, Ana, had to continue day after day in their struggles. Their twin sons, Christian and Austin were diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) ...but only after many visits to the Pediatricians.Twenty years ago not much was known about ASD. Ana and Curt were on their own trying to figure out many things including whether or not diet could be a contributing factor and if there was any way to change the aggressive behavior of the twins. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stated recently that 'one in sixty-eight children in America has ASD'. Such an incredible number and on the rise in recent years.While reading I kept trying to put myself into their environment for just one day. Absolutely would not be able to care for either of them unless I had lots of assistance. It would be a constant act of being vigilant just in trying to keep up with the behavior. And, patience, my word....what patience. And, for over twenty years, both parents have been supportive and loving.Love, a strong faith and respect...each of these contributed to the fortitude of both Curt and Ana. I can only imagine how it must have felt to remain positive for all of these years.A journey of so many, many small steps. Just imagine as a mother hearing your son say his first sentence when he was nine years of age.I will be thinking about the 'Warner Boys' for a long time in the future. Excellent, just excellent...Most highly recommended.

This is a no frills book showcasing a family who knew fame and heartbreak. Well written. it doesn't promise solutions but shows the grit and determination of love and learning. Any parent will appreciate the honesty of dealing with children who are incredibly difficult to raise. I live close to where they settled after Curt Warner left his career in sports. The dealership had a good reputation and the hard work by this couple offers some hope that people will learn from the stories of their lives. True life heros in every sense of the word.

I have several good friends with children who have various levels of autism. I thought this would be interesting to read about another family and their stories. I felt the writing was rather disjointed and at times confusing. I felt little to no real connection to Curt due too his writing style and constant talk of sports. Ana was better, but at times she seemed to ramble more than explain. Focus was lacking and certain things like the house destruction was discussed so often, though vaguely, and yet PANDAS was glossed over. That would have been a subject they could have expanded on. Same with their health and true emotional wellbeing. The comments about vaccines bothered me as well, as did the plug for Go Fund Me. Seems they are loving which I give them credit for. If I could do a half star this would get a 2.5

Wow! This book needs to be given to ALL those who are raising a child with autism. Ana and Curt each take turns in sharing the story of their lives together with a little of their background thrown in also. Like most of us, they thought their marriage was going to be a fairy-tale. That soon changed when their firstborn (a boy) was stillborn. Then along came Jonathan, followed 18 months later by twins, Austin and Christian.Ana felt blessed to be a mom to three boys and was proud of her husband, Curt, who after being a running back with the Seahawks and Rams was now developing his own car dealership in Seattle. When the twins reached the age of two, Ana and Curt noticed that their personalities were changing. Despite reaching out for help and answers, Doctors were no help in those early years. Curt and Ana thought themselves to blame for the twins increasingly poor behavior. Finally in 1999, just before the twins turned 5, a diagnosis! Autism Spectrum Disorder aka ASD. A total shock.What follows is the story of therapies, food adjustments, destruction, endurance, exhaustion, faith, hope and so much more. This story brings the reader right up-to-date with the twins now in their 20's. Not only that but Curt and Ana adopted a little girl during all this.IMPORTANT to note that this is not a "fluffy", good feel story. This was HARD for these folks to write as they had to relive much of what they would rather forget. HOWEVER for those with younger autistic children, it can provide you with hope. NO, the twins have not been cured. NO, the boys cannot live independently BUT their parents have chosen to focus on their strengths rather than their weaknesses. Curt and Ana have also kept their faith and marriage alive. A truly AMAZING TRUE story that will bless all who read it. Although traumatic and heartbreaking at times, this book is an easy read. It feels as if Curt and Ana are sat talking with you. It is very well written and there are some family photos scattered throughout the book for you to enjoy. Curt and Ana are Christians and make no secret of that HOWEVER this book is not preachy. It is for folks from all walks of life and beliefs.HIGHLY recommended! I chose this book as my November First Read. I was not required to write a review but chose to do so. Thanks, Liz

I give The Warner Boys only three stars not because it wasn't a beautiful story but because of the timing of the story. If this book was released twenty years ago when nobody understood what autism was, then I would be more impressed. I give credit to anyone who opens up and tells the world of their personal life experiences especially when it has so much potential to help others experiencing the same challenges. But no matter how much I enjoyed this book, I just can't justify a five star rating, as so many of the reviews I read proclaimed. These Kindle First books are available to us, the reader, to read and review in advance so as to inform others readers of the quality and context in which they are spending their hard earned money. In my opinion, most readers are handing out five star ratings like candy on Halloween.

The good news is that this updated how-to manual is great at learning Excel 2016. I downloaded Excel 2016 for my home PC while at work I use Excel 2013. I am not a power user but Excel versions 2013 and 2016 are for all intents and purposes nearly the same. So are Mr. Smart's books.Here is what I said about the 2013 version of his Essential Skills book, most of which still applies to his 2016 version:"I have a vast library of Excel manuals. My usual go to one is the Missing Manual. But for learning Excel (2013) quickly, the Smart Method is excellent. Each page is a lesson. You ramp up in skill and knowledge at a diliberate pace. The writing is clear as well as the diagrams. The font is a perfect size unlike another Excel manual I reviewed some months ago. If you are new to this version of Excel or want to improve upon your current skill set, then give this manual a try. I am sure you will find it extremely useful. It is better than the "Dummies" series, "Step by Step" or "Visual" series of books."Before I bought the 2016 Skills book, I had purchased the Excel 2016 In Depth published by Que. Crazy, but Jelen, the author, did a massive overhaul of his 2016 manual cutting it in half as compared to his 2013 book (1,200 pages). His new one comes in around 650 pages. Pogue has not come out with their Missing Manual for Excel 2016. Not sure if they will. Reality is that I like Smart's books so much better. He really does a fabulous job teaching Excel. All the pictures and graphics are very clear and easy to read/follow. I am eager to buy Smart's Expert Skill level book when that comes out.

I am studying for Microsoft Office Specialist Certification for Microsoft Excel. There are two books in the series Essentials and Expert. The Essentials provide me with a firm foundation that is intelligently practical. This allows me to get to the heart of learning Excel with confidence so that I can tackle the expert level without tears, instead with a yawning gap for more Excel. Although these two books are more than adequate for the exam I use them as a springboard to satisfy my thirst and hunger for Excel. Thank you Mr. Smart I no longer fear Excel.I was so enthusiastic about the two books in the smart series that I bought the Essentials for a relative. I will not hesitate to give any one to my friends and family.

I was bitten by several book scams on Amazon searching for a good tutorial on Excel, including one "book" that contained just 10 sheets of paper (I posted a review each scam in the hope that others won't repeat my mistakes).However, this one is the real deal. It's clearly written by a pro and each lesson builds on previous lessons, unlike those books that are full of randomly presented, unconnected "gee whiz" features.I'm an adult educator. This book speaks to me and allowed me to confidently start using the software within a few minutes. I recommend it.

Good training manual with work exercies to build skills. The templates from the publisher's website can be a little tedious to download so the lessons flow correctly. Overall, this is probably the best self-study course available at this price point. I purchased this and the Expert Skills book at the same time. I have used Excel off and on at work for 12 years. Excel 2016 has a lot of new features and this help me integrate them into my workflow. My old version of Excel, 2008, did not have pivot tables. This book has a good introduction to this feature and others.

This is the best book I have discovered for learning to use Excel 2016. The lessons are usually about 2 pages in length and can be done fairly quickly. The author has provided files that can be down loaded to your computer. Each topic that is learned in a previous lesson is utilized again with the future lessons. I believe you can learn to use Excel rather efficiently using this book.

The book is easy to follow, and goes over the very basic fundementals of excel and how to use it. I wish the table of contents would have been made available as I already feel I know 80-90% of the things covered here. Either way I have enjoyed the lessons and there are small tips and ticks you can learn along the way. I really enjoy the thorough, but not too wordy straight to the point explanations of things.

The Excl Training course is outstanding. The course is easy to follow and each lesson builds on the precluding lesson. The book is very helpful reference and mirrors the instructor. Although I did not have any specific purpose in mi9nd when I decided to begin the course, it has been a great experience and I am sure that a useful purpose will present itself.

The book is so detailed and well written, it beats classroom instruction hands down.

However, not only do the cybermodels offer insight into the distant past, they also provide invaluable models of the immediate past--the excavations themselves. The editors discuss how archaeology paradoxically involves a degree of destruction to enable reconstruction. Forte and Siliotti explain that each excavation requires a level of history to be moved out of the way to reveal the level beneath. I bought this book for my partner who absolutely loved it and said it was the best thing I ever bought for them! I would highly recommend this to users of any 3D modeling program such as Bryce. I build reconstructions on my website and also for an online community site. It is important to have a good resource to use, and this book defintely fit the bill.

A better title for this book would be, perhaps, "Archaeological Graphical Images". The images of ancient sites are very pleasing and the text informative in describing the sites. Each site was well chosen and the recreations believable. However, there is virtually no mention of how computers were used to do create these. I kept asking, "how were these images done?," "can I do this on my own computer?", and "what hardware and software was used?" There is nothing really to distinguish this book from one that uses manually created images, except the authors' statement that they were done using a computer. What the Authors' seem to have done is create virtual ancient worlds that can be walked though and experienced. I want to be able do to this too. However, the book is a brochure of what they have done, not a description.

There are only a handful 'virtual renderings' of the ancient world in this book. And, although written just a few years ago, most of these renderings look plain when compared with any contemporary simple computerized design drawing or even computer games, though the latter don't have to take into account real world physical constraints. Technical information on the virtual images is lacking for the most part.I see the author foresaw interesting possibilities for computer reconstruction of past cultures, including virtual traveling 'inside' buildings and surveying vast areas from multiple points of view. This could be very interesting not only to the archaeologist but also to many people in other fields, from sociology to architecture, history, decoration and just travelling. But the still images don't convey a convincing picture of the final result.I had unmet expectations about this book. It's more of a general account of some recent explorations grouped partly on a time basis and partly by region. I felt also an unbalanced mix in the final product, concerning virtual (little of this) and non virtual imagery, and also on the sites selected.Summarizing: the book appears as a progress report on current archaeology investigations, with some reference to new techniques. The book title is misleading.

Though I read a lot of popular archaeology, I somehow missed seeing this one when it first came out. Thirteen years ago, I imagine it would have been fascinating. Now, computer graphics has advanced so far and so fast, many of the images in this book remind me of nothing so much as the background graphics in DOOM. It was originally published in Italian, but there's plenty of coverage of Egypt, Anatolia, East Asia, and the New World. The text is quite good but the photos of actual models and museum reconstructions are more useful than the "computer reconstruction" (which, of course, are the work of programmers, not the computers themselves). And there aren't nearly as many of those as the title would suggest. I'd like to see a thorough reworking of this project using current technology -- and without the word "virtual" in the title.

excellent, but DIFFERENT, take on the Paris Commune of 1871

An interesting re-visiting of the Paris Commune (1871) by a mature scholar. The examination of proto-ecological leanings in some figures associated with the Commune is a significant addition to the scholarship of both the Commune and environmental history.

It's a good history book but please that what is said with a grain of salt and get more information about the subject than what is provided in the book
