"If you want a glimpse at what goes on behind the scenes at Pixar, Funny! gives you a peek behind the curtains."-GeekDad Holiday Gift Guide Pick-Forces of Geek"The drawings, doodles and storyboards in the book reveal the moment a spark of an idea takes shape and turns into something the world can enjoy. So, this is funny, spiritual, and smart. The delightful illustrations give a hint at Pixar's own unique creative process and identity. So, no need to add words to them. They speak for themselves easily, and it is rather pleasant to read it one or two pages at a time, just to start a hard work day. It both nourishes our admiration for Pixar's story department and our pleasure to discover all these gems made at last available to the public. If you are a Pixar fan or simply want a book that blends art and humor, this one is for you!"-Animated Views

Unlike the Art of books, which touch a variety of art works during the production, like lighting, shading, layout, modeling, sculpting and more. This book is all about storyboards, it's about the early development of ideas, it happens in Pixar's story department. Most of the works in this book are quick pen, pencil or digital sketches with little use of colors. They are like prototypes, they are supposed to be fast and cheap, and effective to communicate an idea. There aren't a lot of texts to explain the development of ideas, why some stories worked, why some didn't. But for that probably each movie will need its own book.

There are few companies out there as innovative as Pixar. One of the reasons for this is that they encourage creativity, and it's clearly demonstrated in the book "Funny! Twenty-Five Years of Laugher from the Pixar Story Room". The book is a collection of humorous drawings from Pixar story artists. Comedy is a key part of Pixar's storytelling process; filmmakers are often looking to add humor to their stories, but it has to come from the truth of the character and the circumstance. As artist Jason Katz says in his introduction, these are images "you were never supposed to see". Nothing you see in the book made it into the finished movie. Since Pixar films are extensively planned and prepped before a single frame is animated, this is as close as you will likely ever get to "deleted scenes". Some of the ideas clearly contradict the tone of movie and were probably just done for fun; but others are genuinely worthy of consideration and would seemingly fit right in. It just goes to show the abundance of ideas that come out of such an open and collaborative environment - for every idea that makes it into the movie, there are hundreds that do not. And while the ideas in the book might not have made the cut, they still played a crucial role in fleshing out who these characters are and what their personality will be.If it's not obvious, I should mention that I am a big fan of Pixar, having seen all their films multiple times -- and I'd imagine I'm not alone. The pieces of comedy on display in the book - sometimes a visual gag, other times a funny one-liner - are made even more interesting (and funnier) if you are familiar with the characters and the films. Whatever the idea is on the page, it's enhanced if you already have the knowledge of what the character looks and sounds like, as well as how he/she behaves in the film. This is a fantastic book of art and humor. If you love Pixar, then you really have to give this one a look. Highly recommended!

Funny! is a book of visual gags from Pixar's story room. With the exception of John Lasseter's foreword and Jason Katz's introduction, the whole book is on the funny ideas and jokes that never made it to the big screen. There are occasional brief commentary by the artists. The book includes all the films right up to Good Dinosaur.I enjoyed going through the book looking at the drawings, which are actually more like quick sketches.Humour is difficult to describe because everyone has a different sense of humour. Having said that, I feel that some of the gags would work better on screen than as standalone gags like they appear in this book. For me, this book's a mixed bag of funny and not so amusing cartoons. It's best that you have watched all the films so that you know the context behind some of the gags.My favourites are those from A Bug's Life, Monsters Inc, Monsters University and Ratatouille. I just feel that they are funnier. The rest of the book are mostly visual gags, not the laugh-out-loud type. E.g. Frozone cools the beer with his breath, Mater with a missile coming out of his month, Wall.E poking at the captain's fat tummy, grumpy Carl holding a bunch of colourful balloons. Merida the bear being launched from a catapult. Spot eating ticks off Arlo's head. They are like those single panel newspaper comics designed to bring out a smile.Overall, it's still an enjoyable collection of work from the story room. However, I don't see it as a book I might read again often.3.5 out of 5 stars.(See more pictures of the book on my blog. Just visit my Amazon profile for the link.)

Awesome & awesome! Some of the best from Pixar sharing their sketches (digital & traditional) of the best characters to ever hit the big screen, absolutely rad to see them in sketch & storyboard form!Don't hesitate if you're a toon fan & definitely don't pass up if you're a Pixar fan!

Makes for a very enjoyable and entertaining (albeit fairly brief) read. You can kind of think of this as Pixar meets the Sunday funnies... (do they still exist?). It goes from Toy Story all the way through to The Good Dinosaur and gives a bit on an insight into how Pixar brainstorms it's jokes. Thumbs up!

I love this book! My husband bought it for me for Christmas and I pour over all things Disney. So this was a perfect addition to our bookshelf :)

Pretty good if you're interested in the quick gag drawings.

Bought as an xmas gift and it was PERFECT. Sat there and looked through the whole thing together as soon as it was opened. Funny, cute insight to the Pixar behind-the-scenes.

“All American Boys” tells the story of Rashad Butler (black) and Quinn Collins (white) who don’t really socialize but go to the same school. When Rashad is involved in an incident on his way to a party, he starts getting a ton of attention. Throughout the book, we see how Rashad recovers from this incident and how people he would have never suspected support him. This book has points that will have you almost in tears of joy and points that leave you in shock. I noticed a change in the book's theme as it book goes along. It starts off almost hateful but then it has a theme of generosity or support near the end. Without spoiling too much, the events of the first chapter are never forgotten about. With every page, you see the effects of what happened. A quote from the book, “Nobody says the words anymore, but somehow the violence still remains. If I didn’t want the violence to remain, I had to do a hell of a lot more than just say the right things and not say the wrong things.” , perfectly reflects how I felt reading this book. The two authors Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely try to maintain a balance between Rashad and Quinn. The middle of the book is very focused on Quinn and him dealing with betrayal and his friends, while Rashad is focused on more in the beginning and end of the book. I guess this makes sense because Rashad was just in the hospital, but I feel that there was more he could have done at certain points. The support given to Rashad by his friends, English, Carlos, and Shannon, is the opposite of how Quinn’s friendships are falling apart. I am disappointed that some parts of this book were not as challenging for me, and also that there was no real struggle for me in deciding which side I was on, but I think it was a very good book. Although there were things they could improve on, the message is good and the book as a whole is definitely a 5/5. The book is the perfect amount of pages to last you a good week or two, and it is immersing. There were parts of this book where I would not put it down until my kindle died. I have read this book twice and I am reading it a third time. I would recommend this to every reading teacher out there. This is a must read and can replace books like “Old Yeller” and “To Kill a Mockingbird” in required reading. It gives a good stance on current political issues and gives different views on those issues. Every library, bookstore, and online bookstore needs to have this book. This book will brighten the minds of the latest generation while giving them a good time. This book is one of the best books I have ever read, and that really says something about this book. I look forward to reading the author's other books.

I was given this book as a present from my grandfather, John M, and reported on it to my seventh grade class. It was a wonderful tale of overcoming racism and police brutality. The main characters were Quinn, who was white, and who witnessed his school friend Rashad, who was black, being beaten by a white police officer. The white police officer had raised Quinn after his father died. This is a story about a conflict that Quinn had whether he could believe that his substitute father would do something so wrong. I thought it was very well written, how Rashad talked about artists because Rashad lover to draw, the suspense in the book, how Quinn would be about to do something and then the story would switch to Rashad so I had to wait to find out what would happen, the slang that they used was how people their age talk. I recommend it for anyone who is looking for a realistic book that talks about racism and how it still exists.

This bold and compelling YA novel tackles a sensitive and potentially incendiary topic—police violence against people of color—in an effective and realistic manner. Told from the alternating perspectives of two adolescent male narrators, the story demonstrates quite vividly the vast differences that exist between the worlds that each teen inhabits despite the school and community that they share.Rashad, an African-American ROTC student, narrates most of his story from a hospital room, where he’s recovering from the brutal violence he suffered at the hands of a white officer, who suspected him of attacking a woman and robbing a convenience store. The officer is a close family friend of Quinn, a white, well-respected son of an Iraqi War vet who was killed in action. Quinn, who is Rashad’s classmate but doesn’t know him well, witnesses the assault and spends most of the novel struggling with questions of racism, privilege, and inequality.Reynolds and Kiely wisely keep Rashad and Quinn apart for most of the novel—and the effect is powerful. This technique highlights the disparity in their worlds and the impact that each boy’s race has on his life experience. Very much a contemporary novel, the story alludes to fairly recent and well publicized acts of police violence against Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Tamir Rice, and others. The novel is a quick read, yet that does not detract one iota from its impact or the authenticity of its social commentary. Reynolds and Kiely have crafted a gripping, trenchant narrative featuring believable characters coping with current social problems that have real consequences. This novel belongs in the hands of every teenager and secondary English teacher in the country.

My college English professor required us to read this novel in order to write an essay afterward. However, this novel is so good and exciting. Good for teenagers as well, because its not that hard to read and its written pretty well that you cannot leave it unless you finish it! In addition it gives the reader a new point of view for things around that he/she might not think about or realize before. Highly recommend!!

I loved teaching this book to English 12. My students were riveted by the style, the alternating narrators, and the plot that deals with social justice themes, and important topics that impact their lives. There are amazing videos by Jason Reynolds and Brendan Reily in which they together talk about why and how they wrote this book, and also give meaningful prompts to students regarding how they will work for more good in the world.

I purchased this book because I have become responsible for securing a relatively small cloud software companies information systems. While I had a lot of background in network engineering and security, I did not know nearly enough about Active Directory. I knew enough to be dangerous (in other words, I've used the Users and Computers tool a handful of times), but I knew nothing about the inner workings or how you would go about using it to secure my windows servers and desktops. This book give a great overview of the inner workings of AD, how to manage it, best practices, and some security advice. One thing this book does not provide is step-by-step guides on how to configure all the various aspects of AD. it's just not that kind of book. However for the kind of engineer that just needs a nudge in the right direction from an expert before beginning the journey on their own, it's perfect. It definitely helps if you access to an AD ecosystem on which you have some or most administrative privileges so you can at the very least just look at the things the book is describing. I don't know that the book would have been as helpful for me if I didn't have that. This is one of the very few IT books that I've read cover to cover. It's also one of the few I find I reach for fairly often. So if you're like me and you just inherited an Active Directory forest after spending your past life managing Cisco routers and switches, pick up this book.

Very informative book and easy to read. Essential knowledge if you want to understand what is going on in the background with AD. This book is based on concepts, not on tasks.

Great and thorough read for anyone looking to improve their knowledge of Active Directory.

good resource.

I found this book very informational. I manage AD at my work and was looking for some in-depth information on managing it.

Great book

Quite thorough.

As usual Oreilly with another great tech book.

Review

"In this remarkably thorough, articulate portrait of Hezbollah, Norton . . . analyzes how the organization was formed, how it evolved and its current role in Lebanese politics." (Publishers Weekly)"Augustus Richard Norton's timely Hezbollah chronicles [a] dramatic evolution and its sweeping implications for the region and beyond. His lucid primer is the first serious reappraisal of the radical Shiite group since [the 2006] war shattered six years of relative calm on one of the world's most volatile frontiers."---Jonathan Finer, Washington Post Book World"Norton, who has been studying Lebanon, and especially the Lebanese Shiites, for longer than Hezbollah has been in existence . . . offers here a brisk and balanced history . . . of Hezbollah while situating the party in the larger Lebanese and regional contexts."---L. Carl Brown, Foreign Affairs"The best recent study of Hezbollah."---Fareed Zakaria, Newsweek"Augustus Richard Norton, an American academic and former U.S. army officer, has studied that Islamic fundamentalist organization since its formation. And now, in Hezbollah . . . he offers a cogent analysis of its emergence and impact on Lebanese politics."---Sheldon Kirsher, Canadian Jewish News"A clear, concise history of Hezbollah with specific reference to its relevant sociopolitical context. Piquant anecdotes and richly textured details make the book enjoyable reading."---Kristian P. Alexander, Middle East Policy Council"This short, authoritative book, based on first-hand experience, efficiently analyses [Hezbollah's] status."---Iain Finlayson, The Times"This excellent short history of Hezbollah . . . demonstrates that dismissing it as a 'terrorist organization' is both glib and dishonest. . . . . Everyone who wants to understand the complexities of the Middle East, and particularly those of Lebanon and Israel, and wants to reach the truth beyond the political rhetoric, should read this book."---Bruce Elder, Sydney Morning Herald"How do you classify and develop policy toward an organization that has committed acts of terrorism in the past, that currently provides important social services . . . that defends its country from occupation . . . that plays by the rules in official Lebanese national politics? . . . Norton elucidates these domestic and international complexities in Hezbollah: A Short History. . . With other similarly complex organizations on the rise, such as Hamas in Palestine, Norton provides a model of how we might begin to think through their multidimensional, seemingly contradictory natures."---Allen McDuffee, In These Times"In his new book Hezbollah, Augustus Richard Norton . . . provides a succinct account of the group's rise from the chaos created by Israel's invasions and occupation of Lebanon in the late 1970s and early 1980s, which ended only in 2000. Mr. Norton also explores the origins and political orientation of the group, now led by the Shiite cleric Hasan Nasrallah, in a complex web of religious and political identities in Lebanon--with a special emphasis on the role of Shia Islam in the organization."---Richard Byrne, Chronicle of Higher Education

From the Back Cover

"Hezbollah is a timely and landmark work. Richard Norton draws on his extensive expertise to offer a comprehensive history that will be of interest to anyone who seeks a better understanding of Hezbollah, Lebanon, or current developments in the Middle East."--Lee Hamilton, Vice Chair of the 9/11 Commission and Co-Chair of the Iraq Study Group"One of the most remarkable developments in the Middle East in recent years is Hezbollah's meteoric rise to power. No one can better explain the broad implications of this phenomenon than Richard Norton. Drawing on his vast knowledge of Lebanon, Norton has written a timely and readable primer that lucidly explains the intricacies of Hezbollah's ideology and history and demystifies its political strategy."--Vali Nasr, author of The Shia Revival: How Conflicts within Islam Will Shape the Future"Norton is uniquely positioned to provide an analysis of Hezbollah, one that is historical, nuanced, and informed by more than twenty-five years of experience as a researcher and policy advisor on Lebanon. He is one of the foremost American experts on Hezbollah and Shi'i politics in Lebanon. In addition, Norton's writing is always clear and accessible. This concise and accurate primer will be invaluable to general readers, reporters, and scholars."--Lara Deeb, author of An Enchanted Modern: Gender and Public Piety in Shi'i Lebanon"I recommend this book with greatest enthusiasm. Norton is one of the premier--if not the premier--American authorities on Shi'i politics in Lebanon. Add to this the fact that he is a talented writer who can communicate complex ideas in a fluent, engaging, and accessible fashion. Telling quotes and anecdotes enliven the book and ground it. Norton is the rare academic whose expertise doesn't prevent him from communicating well with a general reader."--Eva Bellin, Hunter College, City University of New York"This short, authoritative book, based on first-hand experience, efficiently analyses [Hezbollah's] status."--Roger MacGinty, International Affairs"This excellent short history of Hezbollah . . . demonstrates that dismissing it as a 'terrorist organization' is both glib and dishonest. . . . . Everyone who wants to understand the complexities of the Middle East, and particularly those of Lebanon and Israel, and wants to reach the truth beyond the political rhetoric, should read this book."--Jørgen Jensehaugen, Journal of Peace Research"The many complex and often changing dimensions of Hezbollah are presented in the book in a clear, concise manner." --Rami G. Lumped into the one size fits all portrayal of terror groups popularized by the media and the government, the author performs a valuable public service in removing Hezbollah from this fog of uncertainty and falsehood, portraying it accurately amid the context of radicalization and growing awareness within the Shia community in the 70's and early 80's. Norton highlights the inherent conflict within Hezbollah between pragmatism and dedication to the founding tenets of the organization. It is the resolution of this conflict that will determine the fate of Lebanon amid the power struggles ongoing in the aftermath of the summer 2006 conflict that the author says split Lebanon into two groups; those who support the goals of the Cedar Revolution and those who feel victimized by the corrupt government and elites, seeking to share power at the expense of the Sunni power structure. The pragmatism of Hezbollah seems without limits, whether cooperating with Communist or Christian groups in political parlays or in adhering to the "rules of the game" devised by them and the Israelis during the Israeli occupation of Southern Lebanon. It is this pragmatism that sets Hezbollah apart from other Islamist political organizations and Norton does a fine job of exploring it in detail.A fascinating look that could have been far longer and examined far more but remains one of the best on the subject.

a book that stays neutral to Hezbollah . A chapter or two did get confusing with names and political in fighting of Muslim groups can get confusing as well. I finished the book in 3 days I'm glad I picked it up. it helps give a moderate understanding of Lebanon, which is confusing. I would have liked the book to include more info about relations with Christians in Lebanon.

excellent

Hezbollah is obviously a well-trained military organization. Whether I disagree or agree with such a disciplined military organ I respect the threat and its dedication as the opponent. Fascinating....George

Great Book. Thanks a lot to the seller for her kindness. The book seems looks phisically new. Has been a very useful tool for my research. Although the postal service wasn't as efficient as expected but i feel satissfied aout this purchase. Thanks a lot.

I'm a foreign policy professional and needed a quick yet comprehensive read that would give me the broad outlines of the history and context of Hezbollah. This book fit the bill perfectly. It was authoritative while remaining relatively plain-spoken and easy to read.

In "Hezbollah", Mr. Norton sets out the offer a more "balanced and nuanced" view of "this complex organization". The Western news media often depict a stereotypical and one dimensional view of Hezbollah as a terrorist organization, whereas Hezbollah remains first and foremost a resistance force. Further, Hezbollah has accepted that Lebanon is too diverse to be ruled by a Shia Islamist autocratic rule similar to Iran's, and harbors no ambitions towards that goal.Unfortunately, this book is too brief to accomplish Mr. Norton's purpose of writing it. I can't put my finger on why I never felt any traction with the material. There is very little on the history of Hezbollah, and not enough on the other numerous sects, Syria and Iran and their complex interplay in Lebanese politics. If you have little knowledge of the history of Lebanon, you will certainly need basic supplemental reading to avoid confusion while reading this book. Much is referenced to Lebanon's bloody and protracted civil war in the 1970s and 1980s, but not in a holistic way.If you're in Southern California, by the way, be sure to visit one of the best Lebanese restaurants in Long Beach called Open Sesame in Belmont Shore.

In this short, but revealing book, Norton has provided an excellent overview of the history and politics surrounding Hezbollah. The book contains chapters on the founding of the group, its internal dynamics, as well as how it operates in the regional context. Unlike some analysis of the group, Norton freely discusses both sides of the group: the side that operates and behaves like an organized and effective political party, and the side that can be characterized as a terrorist organization. Norton does this with relative ease and a clear and direct writing style. He demonstrates that the group has evolved at a rapid pace and that no one can say with absolute certainty how the group will continue to evolve.Unlike Harik's work on Hezbollah, Norton does a fine job of retaining some neutrality here and does not let a great deal of personal opinion seep into what should be a scholarly work. He has an impressive amount of experience working inside Lebanon and is thus very close to the subject he writes about, but this does not appear to have caused him to tilt one way or the other. His chapter on the July 2006 war with Israel is proof of that. His treatment of a highly controversial subject is remarkably balanced. He identifies what both sides were doing and thinking at the time and how it led to the outbreak of real hostilities. The book is relatively short, but it was not meant to be a sweeping and comprehensive history. He deals with all of the important aspects of the group and the finished product should be read by all those seeking a greater understanding of Hezbollah. Anything Norton produces in the future will be essential reading for the field.

I am a criminal defense lawyer and have been practicing for 47 years. I am the past president of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. I try jury trials and handle my own appeals. I have a heavy motion practice. I wish this book had been written when I started practice in 1971. This book hits the bull's eye on how to write effectively with credibility. The tips are practical and work. My trial and appellate briefs and my oral presentations are better due to the present these gentlemen have given us in this quick and easy to read book. I have read it cover to cover, and refer to it frequently as I write and prepare to argue. I read Bryan Garner's column in the ABA Journal, knowing that there is more to be learned, after all these years. And, I spent about an hour getting to know Mr. Garner on the phone, between his airplane connections. Buy the digital edition, keep it on your I-pad, take it with you to where you write and when you go to court, should the need arise for a "pick-me-up." John Henry Hingson III of Oregon City, Oregon.

I'm no lawyer but this gave me some perspective on what they do and in general helps to develop persuasive argument and encourages you to pursue knowledge, writing, reading, vocabulary and speech skills to become more persuasive

In the rush to improve, I focused on the latest frills and ideas. After multiple court battles, I have circled back to the basics of effective advocacy. The concepts shared in this book provide an excellent foundation for litigation. I was going to say I wished I had read it earlier in my career, but I am not sure if I would have appreciated its value without first having experienced the challenges of multiple trials, motions, and hearings before a judge.

I am still reading this book, but it is a treasure trove of inside information that one could only make educated guesses at. A lot of it just makes common sense, but when your interaction with judges is mostly very formalistic, you cannot be sure that what seems like common sense actually is.Since the authors are highly placed in the judgery circles, and an academic who studies these things in practice for a living, the book distills down the unknowns and bolsters up the likelies so a person arguing in front of judges, either by submission or in open court, has a much better clue as to how to present their case. The book also covers the differences between trial court arguments, and appellate court arguments.Ostensibly aimed at attorneys, this book even more valuable for pro se litigants who are not daily in court, and need an experienced maven to explain the the not so obvious ins and outs of how a judge will view their pleadings.I am glad I spent the $16 on it, and am reading it on a kindle.

Simple, yet precise and to the point. A good review guide into those details we learnt in school but in time have forgotten about it. Easy to read and understand without unnecessary jargon.

Why would non-lawyers want to read a book on persuading judges? For several reasons actually. First, many of us are involved in work that requires persuading others to adopt our views. While legal argument is substantially more formal and rule-driven than what most of us do, learning how to construct a logical argument as if it were to be delivered to the court, that Is governed by deadlines, restrictions on length, the need to adhere to established fact (or to establish those facts) and to be neither groveling nor inflammatory can be applied to selling your widgets. Perhaps more important is the fact that most people don't understand the impact of the court's decisions on our daily lives, our pocketbooks and our freedoms. Nine people sit on the Supreme Court. They cannot be removed except for the most grievous crimes and then only if Congress were to agree. More than one Justice has demonstrated that you can be senile and sit on the nation's highest court. Going down the food chain, the same applies to the federal appellate and trial courts. It is unlikely that one person in a hundred can even name a local federal district court judge and probably not one in a thousand could name the nine Supreme Court justices. Yet these men and women have tremendous impact on our lives, as do the thousands of state court justices. I am not a lawyer, but I consult to them and am not a stranger to the courtroom, writing drafts for legal briefs, doing legal research and the like. I have seen a lot of judges in action and have learned, in general, to fear them. They can - and do - cause tremendous harm through ill-considered decisions, making decisions with insufficient facts, assuming they know more than they do and myriad other reasons. They are gods in their courtrooms and if your lawyer fails to persuade them of the justness of your cause, you lose. Just how do these people reach their decisions? While justice is supposed to be blind (fat chance!), the justices are human and thus persuadable. Bryan Garner is a noted writer on legal writing. He is actually quite witty as he explains the use of the English language to lawyers who have had their understanding of words driven out of them in law school. Antonin Scalia is a hero to many for the courageousness of his decisions and dissents, his belief that the Constitution is to be strictly interpreted and his generally brilliant writing style. In 115, frequently witty, short chapters the two authors (who occasionally openly disagree) lay down their thoughts on how judges can be persuaded. It is not all about legal writing; e.g, advice to not chew your fingernails and dressing appropriately for court. They advise on giving your oral argument, which a lot of sales and marketing people would do well to read, especially the guidance to "never speak over a judge". In a sales situation, I am surprised at how often the sales person displays his or her contempt for me by not only not listening to me, but presuming they understand the point I was going to make before they spoke over me. I don't know about you, but a lot of salespeople have lost business with me for doing that. Some of the points the authors make are points of contention themselves: i.e., "swear off substantive footnotes - or not". None of the material in this book is truly new. Law students get elements of it in their first year as do some college students. A lot can be found in books on to be a better salesperson: i.e., don't chew your fingernails, etc. And a lot of it is plain commonsense. But that doesn't mean this book is unhelpful. First, it reveals in tiny part how Scalia evaluates the briefs he reads and arguments he hears, which in itself is a fascinating peek. The authors also put things many people may have forgotten through lack of use into perspective. Finally, they remind lawyers and non-lawyers alike that you often have only one shot at winning your argument so you had best put your best foot forward.Scalia and Garner show you how to do it. Overall, this is a fun, informative and helpful read.Jerry

If you're anything like me, sometimes reading opinions and dissents by Scalia is just tedious. So I was pleasantly surprised at what an interesting read this is. It's required reading for my appellate advocacy class, but I recommend it to any law student, especially 1Ls. I wish I had this for my trial brief assignment my first year. This book is a big help in organizing my appellate brief and making me a better, more interesting legal writer.
